Diabetic Association of Bangladesh observed 68th Foundation Day and Diabetes Awareness Day
68th Foundation Day of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh and Diabetes Awareness Day was observed on 28 February 2024 along with various programs across the country. To mark the day, Diabetic Association of Bangladesh organized different programs to make the people aware about diabetes. On this occasion, Diabetic Association of Bangladesh organized a road show (standing program on the roadside with placards in hand) from BIRDEM to Tennis Club.
A discussion meeting was organized at BIRDEM Auditorium on the day to mark the occasion, where Dr. Samanta Lal Sen, Minister in charge of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of Bangladesh graced the occasion as chief guest. Prof. AK Azad Khan, President of BADAS presided over the session. The meeting was addressed by Secretary General of the Association Md. Sayef Uddin and Director General of BIRDEM Prof. MKI Quayyum Choudhury.
On this occasion, awareness Posters and leaflets were published and distributed all over the country. Besides, banners and festoons were displayed during the road show near BIRDEM complex and at different areas of the city to signify the day. Special issues of the association's own publications 'Kanti' and health magazine 'Diabetes Newsletter' were published. Special programs and Talk-show were broadcast through Radio and TV on this occasion.
Free diabetes screening were also organized by BADAS at Dhanmondi Rabindra Sarobar and BIRDEM campus. Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital and Research Institute (ICHRI) organized a special Heart Camp at their complex. On this occasion, National Healthcare Network (NHN), and Bangladesh Institute of Health Sciences (BIHS) also organized free diabetes screening at their different centers in the capital city. A question-answer session between selected diabetic patients and specialized physicians were also arranged at BIRDEM auditorium.
On this day in 1956, National Professor Dr. Mohammad Ibrahim and initiative of some eminent social workers came together established `Diabetic Association of Bangladesh’ at Segun Bagicha in Dhaka.
