ADVANCED DIAGNOSTIC TESTS SUPPORT FOR BADAS AFFILIATED ASSOCIATIONS’ LABORATORIES

BADAS has taken a long-term project, titled “Advanced Diagnostic Tests Support for BADAS Affiliated Associations’ Laboratories” on 12 September, 2017. The project aims at the development of its affiliated centre and Institutions/Organizations laboratories for improving patient services. It is evident that without a quality lab report, it is difficult to provide better service for the patients, especially diabetics.
Project Motto: To provide support for the upgrade of BADAS Affiliated Associations Laboratories and build-up a network between BADAS Affiliated Association laboratories and BIRDEM Laboratory.

BIRDEM Laboratory acts as supporting lab for the advanced diagnostic tests (especially, molecular diagnostic, Immunology, Hormone, Histopathology and Biochemistry tests) that were not possible to start or done at the affiliated centre labs. Therefore, BADAS proposed lab supports (BIRDEM Hospital Lab) on the following profit sharing:

BADAS Lab development project has Three Phases:

Phase 01:
Professor Dr. Subhagata Chowdhury along with the expert lab personals from BIRDEM General Hospital Laboratory Division had visited all the BADAS Affiliated Associations labs (74 Associations Laboratories) from 1 August, 2017 to 31 July, 2018 and submitted a full observation report to BADAS.
Phase 02:
The Secretary General of BADAS visited the affiliated Associations laboratories along with the Project Director, Professor Dr. M. Sawkat Hassan and Project Coordinator, Dr. Md Sohrab Alam, to make the collaboration effective between BIRDEM Hospital Laboratory and Affiliated Association labs. The purpose was to, I) ensure upgrade of the affiliated labs, II) find out the venues of collaboration for uncommon tests and, III) improve information exchange with the local clinicians.

The 2nd phase of this project started in September 12, 2019 by visiting Dinajpur Diabetic Shamity where six affiliated diabetic Associations (Dinajpur, Rangpur, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Thakurgaon Diabetic Shamiti) participated for MoU. Till February 11, 2021, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was singed with 55 BADAS Affiliated Associations for laboratory development and provide advance diagnostic support.
During the visit, Secretary General of BADAS and his team have communicated with local doctors, members of the affiliated Associations and lab personals about the importance of this project. A lecture on CME (Continue Medical Education) has been delivered to provide better understanding and diagnostic services to the affiliated Associations. BADAS also focuses to improve the sample collection booth, laboratory test quality, laboratory waste disposal management and to increase the test parameters for improve patients’ services.

During the visits, it was observed that the maximum Affiliated Associations labs have:
• Insufficient range of test parameters,
• Biochemistry test panels mostly,
• No immunological and hormone test panels,
• No molecular tests platform or expertise,
• Improper sample collection space and procedure,
• No practice on proper laboratory waste (like, human blood specimen/ body fluids/urine), syringe, needles, used cotton, tubes etc. disposal.
