World Diabetes Day 2024 observed with various programs

With the theme ‘Diabetes: Commitment to Good Health’ the World Diabetes Day was observed on 14 November 2024 with various programs across the country as elsewhere in the world. Since 2007 it is being celebrated as United Nations Day.

On the eve of the day, Md Sahabuddin, honorable President of Bangladesh and Professor Muhammad Yunus, honorable Chief Advisor to the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh issued separate messages urging all concerned to work together for creating awareness among the people about diabetes. 

World Diabetes Day 2024 observed

To mark the day Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BADAS) organized a road show (standing on the roadside with awareness placards in hands) from BIRDEM to Tennis Club. Doctors, officers and employees of various institutions and projects of the BADAS took part in the program.

A Question & Answer Session was organized on the day, where specialized physicians were attended at BIRDEM auditorium. A Discussion Meeting was also held at BIRDEM auditorium highlighting the significance of the day. National Professor AK Azad Khan, President of BADAS presided over the meeting where Md. Sayef Uddin, Secretary General, BADAS and Prof. MKI Quayyum Choudhury, Director General, BIRDEM attended the program. Associate Professor Dr. Faria Afsana, Head of the Endocrinology Department, BIRDEM presented keynote speech in the meeting.

On this Occasion, special issues of the association's own publications 'Kanti', Health magazine 'Diabetes Newsletter', `Cardiac Barta’ and special supplements were published in several dailies. Awareness video, posters and leaflets were published and distributed. Awareness banners, festoons were displayed during road show near BIRDEM complex and at different part of the city to signify the day.

Free diabetes screening program was organized at BIRDEM complex and in some important areas in the city. Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital and Research Institute (ICHRI) organized a Heart Camp. Bangladesh Institute of Health Sciences (BIHS) and National Healthcare Network (NHN) also organized free diabetic camp at different centers of the capital. BIRDEM Nursing College and Ibrahim Dental Medical College organized a blood donation camp with the collaboration of Blood Transfusion Department of BIRDEM General Hospital.

Special programs and awareness videos were broadcast through Radio & TV along with social media like YouTube & Facebook.

A motivational program like Children Art competition was also organized at the Academy of Fine Arts Institute, University of Dhaka, where almost 250 children were participated. Affiliated Associations across the country also organized various programs on the occasion.
